Museums

The University has four museums, including Britain's first museum, the Ashmolean, which opened its doors at the end of the 17th century as a 'cabinet of curiosities' gifted to the university by Elias Ashmole (1617-1692). You can plan a museum visit by taking video tours of the Ashmolean, the Pitt Rivers Museum, the Museum of Natural History or the Museum of the History of Science, and find information on the Bate Collection of Musical Instruments.

Summer 2017: There will be a programme of over 40 family-friendly events at the University's gardens, museums and libraries over the school holidays. For details, please see the mindgrowing website.
